Elwood House, lead by Principal Peter Miglis and developed with Piccolo Developments, was bestowed the Judges Award in two categories: Metropolitan Melbourne and Medium Density Development Award. The judges praised the team for the multifamily complex’s “energy and innovation” and described it as “a truly outstanding project.” The three-story building was lauded for both its modern interpretation and seamless integration within the neighborhood’s typically low-scale residential language as standout attributes.

C.F. Row, which Principal Peter Miglis also designed in collaboration with Deal Corporation, took home the Urban Renewal Award. Described by the judges as “a landmark project setting industry standard for urban renewal,” C.F. Row was recognized for the project’s sensitivity to its Fitzroy surrounding and the retention of the site’s postwar-era heritage façade.

When accepting their awards, both Piccolo Developments and Deal Corporation spoke specifically about the design excellence Woods Bagot brings to the industry.  UDIA President Jason Shaw’s also noted that the 2018 award winners’ contribution to the industry and community and its urban form is “truly remarkable.”

Both projects will now go into the national awards which will be announced in early 2019.
