Meet the jury for the 2025 South Australian Architecture Awards

The jury for the South Australian Chapter Architecture Awards for 2025 has been announced, with two Woods Bagot leaders represented on two juries.

The Chapter Architecture Awards celebrate design excellence and impact across the state, and provide an opportunity for public and peer recognition of the innovative work of South Australian architects. Winners at state level will automatically progress to the National Architecture Awards, where the top projects from each state and territory will be compared to discern the country’s most accomplished projects in each category.

Juries for each category comprise one jury chair and a panel of two to five distinguished industry leaders. This year, two Woods Bagot leaders have been selected to judge projects across two different awards categories.

Commercial

Woods Bagot Associate Anthony Orlando will be judging the “Commercial Architecture” category. This category is applicable to projects built primarily for commercial purposes, for instance, hotels, manufacturing facilities, shopping centres, restaurants, business headquarters, breweries, and more.

As a juror for the commercial category, Orlando’s expertise spans a range of sectors including civic and events, education and science, workplace, mixed-use, retail and defense. Recognised for his expertise in technical design and project delivery, Orlando has a demonstrated history of delivering complex and large-scale projects, and is a prime candidate for judging projects of a commercial nature.

Orlando is joined by jury chair Kristy McMillan (JPE Design Studio), and jury peers Valentina Paldizzone (Dash Architects), Wilfred Cheung (Architectus) and Kishan Sidhu (Fielders).

Residential – New + Alterations and Additions

Woods Bagot Senior Associate Waleed Moughraby will be judging the “Residential – New” and “Alterations and Additions” categories, looking at new residential builds and alterations and additions to existing homes.

Moughraby’s practice spans interior, architecture and urban design projects across a range of scales and typologies. His residential experience spans a range of project typologies, from bespoke architectural homes and medium-density apartments in South Australia and interstate, to Eighty Eight O’Connell Street, a mixed-use development featuring apartments and luxury townhouses in North Adelaide. He is also a member of the Property Council’s South Australian Residential Development Committee. Moughraby is respected among his peers for his design rigour and attention to detail, and brings his scrupulous design sensibility to the residential architecture jury.

Moughraby is joined by jury chair Tony Zappia (Studio Nine Architects), and fellow jurors Maegan Scott (Black Rabbit), James Dujmovic (JPE Design Studio), and Sarah Taylor (Brickworks).

Presentations to juries are now underway. The SA Chapter is exhibiting entries at the Woods Bagot-designed U City (43 Franklin Street, Adelaide). Onsite jury visits will take place between 24 March and 4 April, and winners for each category will be announced at an awards presentation and celebration on 28 June.
