Minthis shortlisted for global Awards for Hospitality Experience and Design

The Awards for Hospitality Experience and Design (AHEAD) celebrate the achievements of industry heavyweights shaping hospitality design around Asia, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa, and Europe. Woods Bagot-designed Minthis luxury resort and wellness spa in Cyprus has been shortlisted for the “Resort” category.

As a global celebration of hospitality and resort design, this program is a touchstone for design excellence, judged by 60+ industry-leading figures including architects, interior designers and developers.

After receiving hundreds of entries spanning dozens of countries, the jury whittled down their selection of leading hotels and resorts to 70 shortlisted projects across 14 categories.

Designed by Woods Bagot, Minthis has been shortlisted for the “Resort” award for the European region.

Minthis is a resort-style development located in the hillside setting of Tsada Village in Paphos. With Cypriot developer Pafilia, Woods Bagot’s London studio delivered master planning, architecture, interior design, and branding services to create a unique retreat-style experience, combining the best of local antiquity and premium amenities.

Woods Bagot Principal Nik Karalis said the redevelopment was informed by the concept of the “modern relic”, celebrating the anachronisms of a bygone era while boasting the latest in world-class amenity.

“The Minthis project has been an odyssey to complete, requiring many years, involving many people and building a close working relationship with the client,” says Karalis.

“The central challenge for Minthis was to create a large-scale, 21st-century resort within seven years, while seamlessly blending modern luxury with authentic Cypriot heritage. This vision was realised through thoughtful master planning and immersive place-making experiences, encompassing everything from a reimagined village centre to bespoke villas and wellness facilities.”

The resort’s master-planning recreates a village aggregation, inspired by principles of community assembly. The varying scale and clustering of the numerous buildings that surround the newly created village Plateia (town square) harks back to the distant and centuries-old traditional planning principles.

This five-million-square-meter mountain community embraces the old to re-imagine the future and our place in a changing natural landscape of epic scale.

The AHEAD ceremony will be hosted on 28 November at Evolution, London. View the full list of shortlisted projects for AHEAD Europe 2024 here.
