Woods Bagot is pleased to announce that two of our iconic projects, Tianjin Jinmao Plaza and Makati Commerce Tower, have been shortlisted among the top 3 in the prestigious MIPIM Asia Awards 2023.
This recognition underscores our consistent dedication to providing innovative and sustainable design solutions that enrich local communities and urban landscape, as well as affirms our commitment to People Architecture. Such acknowledgement also testifies to the hard work, creativity, and passion that our team brings to every project.
Created in 2007, the MIPIM Asia Awards celebrate excellence and innovation among the very best of the Asian real estate industry. The competition honors the industry’s most useful, sustainable and visionary projects, completed or yet to be built, in Asia-Pacific.
Sustainable Urban Renewal: Tianjin Jinmao Plaza – Best Urban Regeneration Project
A transformative project in a major port city of China, Tianjin Jinmao Plaza is an exemplar of sustainable urban regeneration. Completed in 2022, the project stands on the site of the historic Tianjin Thermal Factory, integrating the past with the present in a dynamic blend of retail, lifestyle, ecology, culture, and education.
The concept of transformation was central to the project’s design philosophy, leading to the creation of a modern commercial complex that respects the site’s history as the city’s first electricity-generating plant. The design also incorporates a vibrant outdoor plaza by the river, establishing a welcoming public gathering space that enhances the urban landscape and pedestrian experience.
A New Landmark in Southeast Asia: Makati Commerce Tower – Best Office Project
In Manila, the Philippines, Woods Bagot designed Makati Commerce Tower is a bold addition to the city’s skyline. This 170-meter-tall tower displays a strong vertical presence, standing as a testament to the future of workplace architecture.
Inspired by motifs associated with digital technology, the design of the tower masterfully blends functionality with aesthetics and balances texture and shadow, creating a striking façade that minimizes solar heat loading. The highly efficient and adaptable floor plan fosters a superior work environment and set to become a beacon of excellence in Southeast Asia’s rapidly growing market. The human-centered design certificated LEED platinum affirms the project’s commitment to high efficiency and sustainability.
The final ranking for the gold, silver and bronze prize winners will be announced at the Gala Dinner after the final votes from the MIPIM Asia participants on site in 5-6 December at Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.
