On January 30, over 250 attendees came together for “Building Worlds: The Art & Architecture of Film Design.” The panel discussion, which was moderated by architect and author James Sanders, included renowned production designers Jim Bissell, John Myhre, Jeannine Oppewall, and husband-and-wife team David & Sandy Wasco on the process of production design at the Linnwood-Dunn Theatre in Hollywood. During that evening, the seasoned film professionals, who are responsible for works such as “Memoirs of a Geisha,” “Catch Me If You Can,” “Pulp Fiction,” “E.T the Extra-Terrestrial,” respectively, spoke about similarities and differences of the design phases for being production design and an architectural project, how to they conceptualize environments while reading the script, how the background design of films enhance and move the storyline, and what it’s like to work with directors who are mainly concerned with set design.
