Chris Lye: leading global design juror and industry pioneer

As the awards season for architecture and design heats up, Chris Lye, Woods Bagot Principal and Retail Sector Leader for Hong Kong, emerges as a prominent figure in the world of global design awards. Lye, who is recognized for his expertise in innovative retail spaces, has been selected to serve as a judge for several prestigious international design competitions this year, solidifying his role as a key voice in the industry.

Lye will join the grand jury of the FRAME Awards 2024, one of the design world’s most highly regarded events, which celebrates excellence across multiple categories, including spatial, retail, and interior design. The FRAME Awards bring together industry leaders to deliberate on cutting-edge projects and products, and Lye will be a critical voice in the Retail Spatial Awards category. He will sit alongside esteemed colleagues such as John Naranjo, Associate Principal and Creative Director at Arcadis Inc. Miami, and Torquil McIntosh, Cofounder of Sybarite, as they evaluate the most exciting retail design concepts from across the globe. The event will culminate in a grand celebration on October 24 at Hong Kong’s M+ Museum, an epicenter of contemporary design.

Beyond FRAME, Lye also joins the Chair of Judges for the WIN Awards 2024, a role that further reflects his leadership in shaping the future of design. The WIN (World Interiors News) Awards highlight innovative interior projects across sectors, and Lye’s deep understanding of large-scale retail and urban development makes him an ideal fit for this prominent position. From a key riverside masterplan to office interiors that set a benchmark for Shenzhen’s financial district, Chris shares with World Interiors News about the five projects that he feels best reflect his work. Lye’s work and influence are continuously shaping global retail and commercial environments, and his judging roles for FRAME and WIN reflect his passion within the built environment and for standout designers.

Taking place on 24 October at Hong Kong’s M+ Museum, the grand finale of FRAME Awards 2024 will bring designers, brands and clients together for a programme of engaging talks and winner celebration.
