METROPOLIS’s Arch30 program recognizes emerging architectural leaders under 30 by collaborating with prominent city firms, including Woods Bagot. Designer Mitch Bennett and Project Leader Mariel Mora Llorens represented Woods Bagot for the Los Angeles cohort event which took place on October 23rd. The event recognizes the “most talented and promising young architects” across the United States.
This year’s workshop, hosted by HDR was led by METROPOLIS editor-at-large Verda Alexander. The event aims to inspire young architects to consider workplace challenges, seek support, and pursue meaningful work. Additional sessions explored key trends shaping the field of architecture and their impact on career development.
Nominee Mitch Bennett said, “I was thrilled to be a part of Metropolis’s Arch30 LA cohort! It was a great recognition to be chosen by my peers to represent Woods Bagot and engage with other design professionals as well as innovative product manufacturers. The event was an amazing opportunity to share our responsibility and impact as designers in the building industry and the wider world, and our conversations left me feeling optimistic and empowered. I am walking away from Arch30 with a renewed focus on sustainable design and community driven communication.”
Fellow designer Mariel Llorens also shared, “Being selected as part of Metropolis Magazine’s Arch30 LA was a profound honor that validated my passion for architecture and design. The event not only provided invaluable networking opportunities and insights from industry leaders but also deepened my understanding of the vital role architects play in promoting environmental and social responsibility within the design and construction industry. This experience emphasized the importance of sustainable practices in creating healthier communities, reinforcing my commitment to integrating eco-friendly solutions and community-focused designs in my work.”
The presentations and discussions addressed a range of topics, from work-life balance to sustainable practices and the architect’s role as an agent of change. Between sessions, attendees from Los Angeles Arch30 engaged with one another, sharing insights and building connections that are sure to influence their future professional journeys.
