The Woods Bagot-designed 88 O’Connell Street project in North Adelaide has officially topped out, reaching its final height of around 200 feet.
Once completed, the project will comprise a three-tower mixed-use development containing apartments, commercial suites, and retail, perched on top of an articulated podium structure.
The former Le Cornu site had previously lain dormant for some thirty years, and the new masterplan is designed to reinvigorate the underutilised section of O’Connell Street and its surrounding area. Ground was broken on the project back in 2022, and this latest milestone marks a significant achievement in the precinct’s reinvigoration and renewal.
“In 36 months, the teams at Commercial & General and Tandem Building Group have achieved an admirable construction feat,” says Woods Bagot Director Thomas Masullo. “This project sets a new benchmark for mixed-use typologies. With premium quality residential, state-of-the-art commercial, wellness, and retail offerings alongside community infrastructure within one connected site, this project will be the linchpin in North Adelaide’s urban evolution.”
The three mid-rise buildings are connected by the multi-functional podium levels, which will feature ground level retail, food and beverage, community, and outdoor areas to create a lively and connective public realm.
The vertical levels provide open space for public use and vertically massed residential offerings to support North Adelaide’s growing population. Comprising a mix of residential townhouses and apartments, the project will add an additional 160 residences to North Adelaide.
Each highly-crafted apartment will be orientated to capture views of Adelaide’s city, coast and hills, while the unique podium will form the project’s urban identity and connect the development with the broader public realm.
