Nike Rise, Birmingham.
In 2022, the Woods Bagot London Studio celebrated an appointment to deliver two Nike stores.
The Nike store is a cutting-edge hub and represents the epitome of Nike’s commitment to innovation, performance, and style. With a focus on equipping athletes to get moving, the store connects sport, the city and customers with digital experiences and services that enliven the sport pulse of the city.
Led by London Studio Principal and Retail Lead, Peter O’Donnell, the team have recently celebrated the completion of both Manchester and Birmingham Nike stores.
‘Collaborating with Nike on its stores has been hugely rewarding for all involved. A collective team spirit shone through to successfully deliver the design vision and elevated retail experience for both stores’, says Peter O’Donnell.
The 13,000sqf Nike Birmingham store is positioned proudly behind the famous brass Bull in Birmingham’s Grand Central Shopping Centre, seamlessly fusing modern aesthetics, immersive visuals, and interactive features.
Pinned as a ‘digitally focused’ flagship store, the Nike Manchester store is decorated extensively with screens, taking the customer on a visual journey as soon as they enter the store, through to checkout.
Both stores go far beyond the traditional approach of brick and mortar. Instead, they offer a fluid, adaptive environment that blurs the line between shopping and brand engagement.
The industrial style material palette used across the stores, with reflective materials of brushed and polished steel, galvanised metals and mirrored surfaces, gives the illusion of expanded space while amplifying the movement of the digital displays. The reflections in these finishes create a dynamic atmosphere, ensuring Nike’s moving visuals transcend throughout the stores.
The Nike stores are not just a showcase for products; they are a collaborative achievement, born from the joint effort of a diverse group of designers, engineers, and Nike’s own in-house design team. Together, they have created discoverable product destinations and sensorial storytelling at every turn.
Each store makes a bold presence in the heart of the two cities, where sport, technology, and community intersect.
