Woods Bagot celebrates MIPIM Asia Awards triumph

Suzhu Yanlord Cangjie

Woods Bagot is delighted to announce its triumph at the 2024 MIPIM Asia Awards, garnering three accolades that showcases our expertise within design and Asia’s real estate sector. The MIPIM Asia Awards, established in 2007, honor the most outstanding, sustainable, and visionary projects in Asia, whether completed or in the pipeline.

Our People Architecture and Total Place Design methodologies have set a new standard in Asia’s real estate landscape. The three projects nominated are vying for top honors in their respective categories, and we eagerly await the final results.

Yanlord Cangjie, Suzhou Best Retail Project

Yanlord Cangjie Suzhou, a 140,000 square meter experiential retail and lifestyle center, stands as a transformative project that seamlessly integrates into Suzhou’s urban tapestry, serving as a nexus for the entire neighborhood. This ambitious endeavor blends traditional and modern elements, creating a bridge between the ancient and the contemporary through various design motifs. Retail spaces are inspired by Suzhou’s old town’s paving stones, streets are designed to echo historic retail avenues, and a three-dimensional feature garden offers a fresh take on classical Chinese gardens. The project also embraces Suzhou’s ‘slow living’ ethos, providing spaces that encourage a leisurely pace and reward discovery.

“Innovation over replication. ADAPT is not only about the now but the next,” says Principal Christopher Lye. “We are dedicated to crafting spaces that foster a dialogue between the old and the new, challenging traditional design boundaries while honoring Suzhou’s enduring culture.”

Duolun Road Urban Regeneration, Shanghai Best New Mega Development

The Duolun Road urban regeneration project in Shanghai is breathing new life into a historic district, transforming it into a dynamic, multifunctional hub. Covering an area of 220,000 square meters, the project is divided into two phases: Phase 1 focuses on developing a TOD-centric business district with Grade A offices and commercial spaces, while Phase 2 is dedicated to preserving the area’s cultural heritage. The design strategy respects the historical east-west fishbone structure of Duolun Road, ensuring that new developments blend harmoniously with the urban fabric and reflect the changing architectural density from north to south. This project is poised to redefine the Sichuan North Road landscape and position central Hongkou as a benchmark for urban renewal.

“Duolun Road will present itself as an ‘open-air museum’,” notes Director, Shanghai Studio Chair Pearl Huang, “captivating locals and tourists alike by narrating the story of Shanghai’s evolution and reviving the glory of the neighborhood.” The project is slated for completion in May 2028.

Hysan Place – Best Retail Experience

Meanwhile, congratulations to Hysan Place in Hong Kong for winning the Best Retail Experience. Submitted by Hysan Development Company Limited, this dynamic project is revitalizing the Lee Garden district and Causeway Bay, drawing in a vibrant, youthful demographic with its innovative revamp. Woods Bagot is proud to have been entrusted with enhancing the interior design at levels B1 and B2, focusing on improved circulation and creating diverse visitor experiences.

“The idea is to capture the urban spirit of a train station where people naturally gather, socialize, dine, and shop.” explains Principal Billy Ip, “We aspire to provide visitors with an engaging experience that transcends traditional retail settings.”
