Meet Thasneem Abuthahir, a talented team member in the Dubai studio. Thasneem graduated from the American University in Dubai with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design, specializing in hospitality. She was honored with both the Outstanding Interior Design Student Award and the School of Architecture, Art, and Design Undergraduate Award.
“Last year, I interned at Woods Bagot after winning a design competition, Where I met with Richard Fenne and Sean Tan who got me into this wonderful W-B Family. I first worked under the mentorship of Mina Ghaffarzadeh under many projects, and she mentored me throughout my senior thesis project which is showcased. Her immense support and mentorship shaped my project and ideas to come to life. W-B played a vital role in ensuring a smooth transition between my academic and professional career.”

What do you enjoy most about the Graduate program at Woods Bagot so far?
I’ve really enjoyed the people I’ve met in the Grad program and the welcoming, supportive environment they create. Everyone is dedicated to ensuring I get the best experience, and the diversity of our team brings such a unique perspective to each project. I especially appreciate how patient and kind everyone is, along with all the fun activities we get to do together—it’s been an amazing blend of learning and camaraderie!
How has it been working with your mentors and team?
My experience in the graduate program has been exceptionally rewarding, especially through my collaboration with industry professionals like Aleksandra Nastic (Associate Principal) and Delaram Abouameri (Associate). Their extensive expertise has not only guided our projects but also fostered a creative and supportive atmosphere. Working alongside my teammates, who bring diverse perspectives and skills, has made tackling complex challenges feel seamless. This collaboration with such talented individuals has greatly enriched my learning experience and inspired me to push the boundaries of my creativity and skills.
We invited the graduates to share insights into their final projects, giving us a glimpse into their innovative approaches, creative problem-solving, and the unique perspectives that set them apart in the field of design.
My graduate project, Center for the Future, explores how we can responsibly integrate artificial intelligence and robotics into society. AI has advanced rapidly since the 1950s, and while this growth offers immense potential, it also raises concerns about the replacement of human roles. Center for the Future aims to address these concerns by providing a space dedicated to educating and empowering communities to navigate these technologies as tools to enhance our future, rather than replace us.

Designed as a technological hub, this project aligns with the UAE’s vision of positioning the Middle East at the forefront of AI and robotics. Through immersive learning experiences and hands-on workshops, it equips young learners, professionals, and educators with the skills to engage confidently with these groundbreaking technologies. In doing so, Center for the Future seeks to foster a society that embraces AI as a force for growth while promoting inclusivity, collaboration, and innovation.
What do you enjoy most about the Grad Program?
As my projects have primarily focused on hospitality and mixed-use developments, I have learned the fundamentals of build ability on a larger scale. Collaborating with the team during the concept and schematic design phases has provided transparency, allowing me to understand and contribute to each stage. This experience has introduced me to the practical aspects of architecture and client relationships.
