What would typically be an inward-looking atrium building has been turned inside-out, revealing some of the laboratory space, aiming to showcase the important science and research taking place within. Collaboration and dialogue between research departments was key to our approach, fostering communication and triggering innovation.

We have rotated the structural grid to respond to the main entrance zone below and allow more spacious workplace ‘neighbourhoods’. The inner wet lab zone is completely transparent to the workplace and prioritises immediacy of write-up space directly adjacent.
The decentralised plant and most of the services are tucked away to the north, allowing the most efficient routes to labs and not impede workplace zones.
