A new hospital for forward-looking healthcare services and first class teaching and research.
The University of Canberra needed a new teaching hospital that could support new approaches to patient care, as well as multidisciplinary teaching, training, and research. Our engaging work process and expertise in hospital design won us the commission to deliver the University of Canberra Public Hospital (UCPH). We designed a facility that benefits both the patients and the professionals.
Talk to Edwina Bennett about Health
UCPH’s design is driven by the concept of “nature is nurturing.” The hospital blends into the natural Brindabellas landscape to create a calm atmosphere in the hospital, which accommodates 20 mental health inpatient beds and 120 rehabilitation beds.
Inside the hospital are internal streets connected to a social hub flooded with natural light that accentuates the warmth and calmness of the environment. The internal streets give the hospital a legible layout for delivery of efficient healthcare services, while enhancing easy way finding.
Woods Bagot has achieved a simple and effective design through meticulous planning. UCPH is an ideal environment to heal patients’ body and mind, and to nurture health professionals’ skills and new ideas.
